Last night I decided to check Facebook on my phone, a stupid mindless habit out of boredom that held in it not even the slightest expectation of discovering what I did. What I saw in my friends post was quickly echoed by a news report on the t.v. that has stayed in my mind since then.
I guess you understand I'm talking about the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Connecticut . My heart goes out to all those affected, I cannot begin to imagine the tremendous grief that they are surely experiencing today and will have to deal with for the rest of their lives. I hope that as a community they are able to find in themselves the support that they so desperately need at this time, since no one else is able to feel their pain the same way. If the recognition that they should never had had to go through this helps than I hope they know that Americans of all different walks of life and opinions can attest to that . Unfortunately we are often united when it's already too late.
"Does this darkness have a name? This cruelty, this hatred, how did it find us? Did it steal into our lives or did we seek it out and embrace it? What happened to us that we now send our children into the world like we send young men to war, hoping for their safe return, but knowing that some would be lost along the way. When did we lose our way? Consumed by the shadows. Swallowed whole by darkness. Does this darkness have a name?" - One Tree Hill“As a country, we have been through this too many times, whether it’s an elementary school in Newtown or a shopping mall in Oregon, or a temple in Wisconsin or a movie theater in Aurora, or a street corner in Chicago,” he lamented. “And we’re going to have to come together to take more actions to prevent tragedies like this regardless of the politics.”- Obama
